Well here we are on a rainy Friday in Miami and today is certainly a special day, this will be the second interview published today. Our guest in this interview is none other than my friend Phat Trance from the Daily Mobile site in Europe. Phat Trance has a very successful blog that talks about all things mobile across several platforms including Blackberry, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, and Windows Mobile. NMT welcomes Phat Trance.
Tell us a little about your background and what lead you to start blogging about Nokia and Symbian?
My real name is Taimas and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. I started Daily Mobile just for fun in Sept 2007 when I was sick for 2 weeks and didn’t have anything to do. It didn’t take long before the blog got a few thousand visitors so I just continued to blog even though I didn’t have any plans to continue with it, and now 2 years later its my number 1 interest!
How did the name Phat Trance come about, does it have a special story you’d like to share with our readers?
The nickname Phat Trance comes actually from when I heard the Rank 1 – Airwave song for the first time in the end of 1999! Phat^Trance stands for Fat Trance song
How does it feel to have one of the most famous Nokia and Symbian English speaking blogs in Europe?
It feels good that people actually like what I write about. Its kind off funny that a site like Daily Mobile with not much text in the posts (compared to a normal site) got this popular. When I started Daily Mobile I never could even imagine that the blog would be this popular! The Daily mobile community is getting new visitor’s record every month since I started the blog for 2 years ago. The blog has between 190-210k views per day now and still growing.
What are your top favorite applications and why?
I have many apps installed but my favorite 3 apps are:
- Free I SMS – it’s a freeware threaded sms app for both s60v3 and v5 phones.
- Opera Mini – The best and fastest browser for Symbian
- Textquick – It’s a SMS app that ranks the contacts after popularity. So the more I send a sms to a contact, the higher up on the list the contact will appear.
What advice can you give new bloggers in general? I know its taken you a few years to be one of the top bloggers but can you tell us a little about your journey to that position.
The best tip I can give them is to SEO (Search Engine Optimize) your site, it takes a lot of time and effort to do it but its all worth it! Another important tip is to update your site every day and try not to write about the stuff that most of the sites write about, keep your blog unique.
What are you two favorite Nokia Smartphones of all time and which smartphone are you looking forward to use?
Well most of fellow readers know that I’m totally in love with my Nokia N95-1 even though I have replaced it with the Nokia 5800. The N95 was THE phone when it was released a few years ago. Another favorite S60 phone must be the Nokia 7650, my first love
Which phone am I looking forward to use?
Well that’s easy, it’s the Samsung Omnia HD. I can’t wait until it gets released in Sweden. That phone almost got everything I want on a phone right now
What are your thoughts on the rumors that Nokia will be joining the netbook business?
Let’s say that I really hope that’s just rumors! The netbook market has already too many competitors and the profit / netbook is what I heard of very low. But it would be cool to own an netbook with the Nokia logo on
And finally to conclude, What’s your favorite color, sport, blog(not related to Nokia), movie, PC Operating System, and music band.
Since I started to blog full time a few months ago I do nothing but “exploring” the internet so I have to many favorite sites so mention in the interview, but a few sites I like are:
When it comes to music I listen to most of the Trance / Techno songs that are out there! and Oh I almost forgot, I always wear dark cloths so ill guess that my favorite color is black
Well Phat Trance I really really thank you for participating, we’ll do a follow up sometime in the future it was a lot of fun
