Interview Dhanusaud from DHS Themes

Tell us a little bit about your background and what lead you to start developing Symbian themes?

Well I don’t have good background, my real name is Dhanu Saud & I am just a handicrafts designer in an export firm here in India. I have started making themes on Carbide.UI Theme Studio 3.2.0 last year & started sharing them on 26th July, 2008, before this I used to make themes on ownskin.com. I have to use carbide because I want more attractive & qualitative themes which could make me smile, which could make my phone look different & unique. Before designing S60 skins I used themes designed by Pizero, BabiNokia, Taieb, & Travis which attracted me to jump over Carbide.UI theme studio.

My 1st S60 phone was N72, and I got E50 & finally still in love with E51. I always think there is something missing in my themes & that is my own designed icons which are under development since few months ago, hope they will release soon publicly.

How much time did it take to develop your themes, as far as coding the actual theme and which programming language was used?

S60 theme making isn’t so easy compared to others, its time consumable. Also I have lots of high priority work beside themeing. It always takes more than a week for me to release a single theme for different versions of Symbian OS & screen sizes.

Instead of programming language, I use Carbide.UI theme studio 3.4.0 to design themes, Adobe Illustrator CS4, & CorelDrawX4 to design vector graphics which are used in my themes. I rarely use raster graphics these days, instead I give high priority to SVG themes.

Can you share for our readers what developing is on the horizon especially with these new devices coming soon?

As I have already said S60 themeing is too tough subject, especially for new & upcoming handset. Sometime I mesh up making skins for 5th OS. Actually the 5th theme editing environment eats maximum memory of my PC & the nine piece editing really irritates me for a while, anyway the final result always makes me smile.

What are your favorite Symbian applications can you list your top 5 and why you like them?

Profimail: My favorite applications are developed by LCG, but among them an email program known as Profimail is best application I have ever seen.

FreeFSWP: FreeFSWP by Junnikokuki gets the second position. It is so cute application which customizes my background of my theme on my handset. Junnikokuki did made some awesome freeware apps but I am in love with FreeFSWP.

OperaMini: The well known fastest browser by Opera Software ASA. Mostly my 50% of Internet works as well as Internet surfing, blogging is done via this awesome Java application.

What’s your favorite theme from your collection?

It’s Black&RedV2 for sure. I never get bored with this theme. I always return to this theme after using any themes for few days. Also contra 2.0 premium is my favorite theme among my theme collection. But these days I fall in love with GoldV3, an unreleased theme which be soon available for download for various OS.

What are you favorite Themers can you list your top 3 or top 5 ?

I can’t list themers in list but my favorite theme makers are BabiNokia, Pizero, Gaimbi, Travis, Taieb, Ivanov, Gnokkia & Yan Flahorn.

What advice can you give to new developers/themers?

I request new theme makers to design something new with your own imagination, don’t worry about problems or bugs. Just knock dhanusaud if you have problems, if I have time I will always try my best to help new theme makers for sure.

Which Themes do you enjoy that are not yours?

The brand new premium theme by pizero.net called “Pulsar” is awesome at all, also Three by Babi, Steel by Travis, Stairs by Gaimbi are good themes too.

What Theme do you want to develop that you have not had time to start?

There are lots of plans. In near future I am going to more & more themes focusing on quality as well as compatibility with multiple versions of Symbian OS.

Which Nokia phones have you used in the past?

Nokia N72, E50 & still using Nokia E51.

The Nokia Ovi Store is out are you planning to submit your themes or wallpapers there as well.

Yes, I have already registered there couple of days ago, lets see what I can do there, I will try my best to reach every user’s handset worldwide.

What are your two favorite Nokia Smartphone of all time and which Nokia Smartphone are looking forward to use?

In my opinion N95 8GB is awesome phone for all time. I have never used it but I saw many smiling owners & I heard big stories about this handset & in future I want to use E75.

What is your favorite color, movie, music band, and sport?

I like multi color pattern but green is my favorite color or all, I rarely watch movies but after watching any movie I always think it’s the best movie I ever watched…lol. I love music but not any specific band & I love football to watch as well as to play.
