NMT welcomes the Gerry Moth from NokiaAddicts one of the nicest and friendliest bloggers I have met. Without further ado, I present you Gerry Moth.
Tell us a little about your background and what lead you to start blogging about Nokia and Symbian?
I got my very 1st phone in 2000, a Philips C20, only got the mobile as my wife was pregnant and I needed it for emergencies. I then moved on to a SE T610 and I was only introduced to Nokia’s when Vodafone where giving away a Nokia 6630 to trial their new 3G Network. From that phone I was hooked on S60 and 3G J
Being a one man operation, what challenges have you faced and how have you overcome some of them?
I’ve always been a One Man Band and only recently let Kip Hakes start posting on the nokiAAddict site for me, I haven’t really faced any major challenges, maybe getting companies to reply to you, but I’m still getting that.
What are your thoughts and wishes for the newly created Symbian Foundation?
I do love FREE apps and opening Symbian up to a great open source development community can only be a good thing. Hoping for some great things from this, I just hope they keep it FREE.
What are you thoughts on Nokia trying to move forward with the Maemo Operating system?
I used to have a N800 and always wished it had a built in slot for a SIM Card, with the explosion of Netbooks and people wanting small, but powerful devices it will be very interesting to see what Nokia do with Maemo. Can Maemo be the new Android?
What are your top 5 favorite applications and why?
Gravity – The best Twitter and also the best S60 app for Nokia phones. The User Interface is just superb
Wordmobi – A bloggers best tool, have on the E71 and 5800XM. Couldn’t be without this one.
Mobbler – Streaming music on my phone from Last.fm, very handy for ALL occasions.
Nokia Podcasting – I like my podcasts and this app has never let me down.
LCG X-Plore – Powerful File Manager, you just need this on your phone.
What advice can you give new bloggers in general?
Keep it simple and keep it honest.
What are you two favorite Nokia Smartphones of all time and which smartphone are you looking forward to use?
The E71 has to be the best Nokia phone I’ve owned, it just rocks from the built quality to the overall performance of the phone itself. Another favourite has to be the N73, it was my 1st S60 3rd Edition phone and it still does the business today. So looking forward to trying the N97, I so want this phone to be everything I want in a phone, a combination of my E71 and 5800XM, I’ll be very very disappointed if it doesn’t deliver.
What are your thoughts on the rumors that Nokia will be joining the netbook business?
Why not, I’d love to have a small PC with phone capabilities. I’m just worried what Nokia will produce as the Nokia PC Suite isn’t the greatest software ever. Hoping for better things to come.
What’s your favorite color, sport, blog(not related to Nokia), movie, PC Operating System, and music band.
Favourite color is BLUE, sport is FOOTBALL, blog is Boing Boing, movie is QUADROPHENIA, PC OS is UBUNTU and band is a hard one, but at the moment I’d say The Prodigy, still producing the goods after all these years.
N86 or N97 what is gonna be, or perhaps both, hmm, share some insights ?
N97, fingers crossed. I really want Nokia to improve the web browsing experience on their phones, I think it’s the main area they are lacking in.
What role do you see Samsung taking with new Symbian releases, has the gauntlet been thrown at Nokia?
Samsung and now Sony Ericsson using Symbian will be a great incentive for Nokia to produce the best, come on Nokia impress us all J
Mac or PC what kind off guy are you?
Linux all the way, have been hooked on Ubuntu for 3 years now, but been very impressed with Windows 7 at the moment.
