Codename “Avkon” is the existing widget set that the N97 and 5800 currently which is at its best an introductory set while Nokia gets the right infrastructure setup for the introduction of Orbit, a new and more advanced system that has better support for mobile devices. Just look at the screenshot and oooh so nice.
- A new “Orbit” extension library for Qt, which contains more than 50 widgets tailored for mobile user experience, and which will provide a replacement for the existing “Avkon” widget set.
- A new “Direct UI” interaction and navigation logic, combined with finger-optimised layouts offering excellent touch and hybrid-device user experience.
With articles like this proliferating more and more it just makes me think, hmm, do I get an N97 now for $600 or whatever discounted price I can get, or should I ride the wave and wait for Qt on Symbian to come out with its new bad boy, hmm, its definitely food for thought and something to consider because let’s face it $600 for a mobile phone is not exactly cheap by any standards, unless you’re a wealthy person. So my guess, is that when these new Nokia Super Touch devices come, they will probably come out at a lot less than the N97 in order to compete in the global touch market by end of 2010. Which by then the iphone and others will probably be more entrenched in peoples psyche than the American shows “Friends” or “CSI” know what I mean. We both know that’s not a fact but perception goes a long way in any business. So, I’ll be sticking to my newly acquired N95 8GB and my faithful little sidekick the E71 for some time. Thoughts in progress.
