In an unprecedented move Nokia, the Finnish mobile giant, will turn to Android for a smartphone they are developing which is rumored to be debut at the Nokia World conference in September. This is definitely a game changer, a complete change of plan in terms of strategy.
The amount of media scrutiny that has surrounded Nokia has been unbelievable ever since they announced the Nokia N97. Now, this news development reasserts what has been said by various Nokia executive even more so today, that Symbian s60 5th edition is a transitory solution. So now its clear that s60 5th edition has its days counted and we will hopefully see an N97 kind off device running the Android operating system.
What can we expect this September ?
Well, that’s easy a Nokia Smartphone running Android with the following specs:
- More onboard memory 256 mb or so
- 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics
- 30 fps Video recording capability Nokia Nseries style
- A more refined Touch Screen than presently available on the N97 and XM 5800
- Share Online fully integrated into the Android OS
- And some of Nokia’s application converted to run on the Android platform
- a BP-4L battery which currently runs in various Nokia models ie. N97, E71, E71x, E63, and E90
Wow, what a handset that would be, now its clear what my contacts where alluding to in reference to September being an incredible and momentous month.
Apparently Sony Ericsson has also jumped on the Android bandwagon and ditched the Open Symbian OS for the more refined graphical user interface of Android, so folks this should be one amazing summer in the smartphone world.

If that list you are saying is going to be on the “Nokia Android” device then I would rather it stay on Symbian. No way is Nokia going to Android.
