Skype for the Nokia N97 and Nokia 5800

Skype gives you the ability to make calls via voip and free skype to skype, here is Skype for the Nokia N97 and Nokia 5800, its been tested to work on the 3UK Network so if you’re one of the lucky ones on that network then enjoy, others are free to test it and report back.

Is this only for v5? I have a s60 v3 device, and Skype only lets me make calls, can't receive any calls. I wonder if this has the same issue.

This app is only for Huchison 3 customers and as they don't stock the 5800/N97 and have told me they have no intention of doing so kind of kills this app at its bud don't you think.

3UK, oh really wow that sucks but its good to know it exists at least perhaps some hacker will make it work soon, I'm sure.

Does video work? Up till now I have been using Nimbuzz or whatever it is called, but theres no video support, (and it's hard to be logged into IM OR Skype, rather than both at the same time).

fring does an excellent job. Its java not native S60 so has some UI limitations. It on all networks over 3G & GPRS as well as WiFi. Does voip & IM on Skype, gtalk, MSN,SIP,yahoo,AM,ICQ. I acts as a twitter (with sound alerts) client which I find useful in the UK as we can't get txt message alerts. It has last.fm and facebook client intergrated as well. No video but you can send files. I do think worth checking out. Works on many phones,all S60 v3 & v5, S40

You can get txt message allerts of twiter if your a Vodafone customer and is very easy to set up on your twitter acc.

I do agree there was announcement by Vodafone and twitter about a year ago. I have heard this to end in September. I stand corrected.

Your not totaly incorrect as the free service will nolonger be available from september but will be replaced by a premium charged txt message service.

You can now acording to twitter get txt notification on O2 aswell weather its pay for service I an not confirm or deny.

Not really.. I am with 3 (and they gave me one of their phones). However, I recently won a 5800 from a Pepsi Max competition, and am now using that phone instead. So this app is perfect!

loads up great on 5800. Pity its only for 3 networks around the globe with no wifi option. Anyone any clues – apart from fring and nimbuzz, they have a weird delay when chatting.
