Well today, has been a great day at approximately 3pm I received my copy of Kinoma Play for Symbian and boy was I happy. Let’s start off by explaining what Kinoma intends to do with this Social Media Player.
Kinoma Play is an all in one Social Media application with a plethora of applications and a multitude of options, all very easily configurable in a nice and simple display.
When one enters the application, one is immediately greeted with a home screen, here is a screenshot:
Here is you have:
Pictures: which will display your devices pictures
Music: like at the above
Movies: will display your videos
My Media: Will scan your entire device for media and organize it neatly including your Mini SD Card, which was a nice surprise for me.
Guide: it will display the Kinoma Guide
Search: now this one is cool, this has, well a screenshot is better:
you can search in all those viewed search engines for whatever you want, very nicely done Kinoma
Apps: this will list all your apps of Kinoma with more options and Advance Options menu as well
History: is neat, its a history of what you’ve done in Kinoma, if you viewed a pic, a video, it will show up here, very nice.
Favorites: you can pick which apps you want to show up here
Get Apps: is Kinoma’s menu where you decide what shows up on your Home Screen, you can delete apps as well from here but you can also delete them from the Home Screen by pressing the middle key and following the pop up instructions.
Facebook: well Facebook in all its glory, very nicely done as well
Twitter: Now this Twitter iteration is so darn cool (its no Gravity but its very very very nice, I like it a lot), it supports. Follow, Unfollow, Block, Mentions which are replies, Direct Messages, RT, Favorites, inline view of Twitpic images or others I suppose as well.
When you scroll to the right you’ll see another menu populated with apps like I’ve setup, remember Get Apps: you’ll find all these there.
We have a very functioning You Tube client that you can actually login with your user information, a big difference from the default and off course you can play any video, search, favorites, most popular and the list goes on and on, very nicely done, you can send twitter messages with the Videos details as well, all in all very nice work Kinoma, adding value to this application was very important.
News: this is an RSS reader type of application which is populated with NY Times and all the Popular News which off course is user configurable, very nice.
Google Reader Beta: the Kinoma Blog mentioned they rushed this application out so we could use and boy were they right, its awesome, simply input your gmail details and voila full Google Reader viewer very very nice, its shows a short summary of the article and then you can jump to the browser to read the full post. Very Nice, I’d like to see in another release an option to “Send to Twitter” or “Send to Delicious”
Kinoma we’d love to have Delicious Bookmarks added to your application, I think this is very important and will be a much better Social Media hub with it alongside Posterous integration.
Flickr: this is awesome awesome application, you have access to all your pictures and all your albums or sets as flickr calls them. You can even upload a picture to Flickr and put it in a set as well, You can search your Groups, your Favorites, Public Feed, My Friends, Top 100, Most Interesting, and a number of other search queries, very very nicely done. I really like this one.
Picassa: well very much like Flickr but with a lot less features, pretty obvious Flickr is Kinoma’s preferred image app but still you can view all your pictures.
Well I could go on and on and I’m still discovering new uses, so more to come later . . .
