As of recently I’ve been riding the wave of mobile qr readers for Nokia, I’ve known about them for years now but recently with the my purchase of the N86 its been a God given gift but also don’t discard E series devices either, these little apps are very handy indeed. Just check out the image above that’s our very own NMT’s site.

I won’t dwell into the plethora of options as its not the focus of this post but I’ll just highlight my favorite which is Upcode. Upcode is extremely reliable and capable of reading 2D and 1D bar codes which are everywhere folks. Here is a little something from their site which explains it thoroughly in a brief statement. I’ve also loaded my E71 with Upcode and its so so helpful, so I encourage you all to the same you’ll love it. Cheers

UpCode™ is a highly developed mobile access & interaction MAI™ technology that turns mobile phones into intelligent optical readers (or ‘scanners’) able to read codes on any object or surface – simply by ‘pointing’ at them with a mobile. In everyday life 2d QR DM and 1d barcodes are on practically every object or can be sent to mobile phones – UpCode™ can make them come to life.

UpCode™ is considered as the world’s no. 1 solution provider for evaluation and subsequent integration of new mobile optical reading solutions into cross-media or business applications.
The giant messaging company Nimbuzz just recently announced their new product launch called NimbuzzOut which allows you to make VOIP calls at a cheap rate. Here’s the press released that I received via email earlier today. This is certainly great news and only shows how Nimbuzz continues to evolve in an ever changing mobile world. Check out the cool screenshot of how it looks on the your Symbian Smartphone.

Nimbuzz, the new-generation mobile VoIP operator, has today announced the launch of NimbuzzOut, offering great value international calls at the lowest possible rates, to complement its multi award-winning mobile application offering free VoIP calls, SIP calls and social IM aggregation.

From today, NimbuzzOut Credits will be available for purchase at www.nimbuzzout.com, enabling users to save up to 95% on the cost of a traditional international mobile call.

Nimbuzz’ free to download, free to use mobile IM and VoIP application, launched in May 2008, already enables millions of users worldwide to enjoy free calls and instant messaging with friends across both its own network, and users’ favorite online social communities (Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk (Orkut), AIM, Facebook, MySpace and many more)

The launch of NimbuzzOut, starting with Symbian, iPhone and iPod Touch handsets and rolling out to others later this year, adds great value and great quality calling from mobiles on 3G or Wi-Fi to any other mobile or landline worldwide.

Nimbuzz technology has pioneered next-generation mobile calling, with over 3million Nimbuzz calls made every single week! NimbuzzOut represents the company’s first revenue-generating feature, launched in direct response to user requests of whom 69% recently surveyed* said they expect to use mobile VoIP more than ever in the coming 12 months.

NimbuzzOut comes at a time of phenomenal growth for Nimbuzz, with more than 10million registrations of the application since launch, a current growth rate of more than a million new registrations each month (that’s a new Nimbuzz user every 3 seconds!), a daily active user base of over 30% and an international user footprint covering every corner of the globe.

Nimbuzz founder & CEO, Evert-Jaap Lugt said of the NimbuzzOut launch: “High value, high quality voice calling is positioned at the heart of our value proposition, making NimbuzzOut the most natural commercial extension of our product. This offers fantastic value to our users, especially those who wish to communicate regularly with friends and family abroad at the lowest possible prices. This is all part of our strategy to give Nimbuzz users control of their mobile lives and the freedom they want and deserve.”

Adopting a standard pay-as-you-go model, NimbuzzOut credits will be sold in bundles of 10, 20 and 40 Dollars or Euro’s. Users can learn more and check call savings per country via the rate calculator on the Nimbuzz web and wap sites.

My favorite social media aggregation tool, Pixelpipe, just had a huge monster update last night and things just keep getting better and better for the San Francisco startup that now can probably be called the king of social media. Great job guys but I must say I’m really curious about you’re tweet from last week hinting at a possible native s60 Pixelpipe application due to the limitations of Share Online. Anyway, check out the services below and see if you fancy any of them. I already setup Google OCR and have been getting good results after my initial test.

From your S60 device just refresh the services once you’ve setup the additional pipes online.

New Pipes:

- Google Docs: Upload documents directly to your Google Docs account

- Google OCR: Upload a photo of a document, Google will convert the photo to text and place the document in your Google Docs account. Neat!

- docstoc: Online document storage & sharing

- CNN iReport: Upload photos, video and audio files directly to your iReport account for citizen journalist on the go.

- ScreenTweet: Send photos to Twitter

- Sendspace: Online file storage and sharing

- Skyrock: Popular Social Network out of France, supports photos, blogging and status updates

- Twicli: Media sharing for Twitter, supports photo, video & audio files

- TwitLens: Send photos to Twitter

-Twitsnaps: Send photos to Twitter

- Yahoo Status: Update your status across Yahoo networks with micro-blog style updates

- Yahoo Meme: Yahoo’s up and coming competitor to Twitter, supports inline photos and status/micro-blog posts

- Yammer: A private/group version of Twiiter, supports micro-blog posts, be careful with this one since your entire company might be reading your posts!

Removed Pipes:

- SMS services: We were having issues with reliable delivery of the messages so removed the SMS services for evaluation.

- Seesmic: The video services weren’t reliable enough

- Squarespace: Not enough users

- Qipit: They’re discontinuing their consumer offering

- Brightkite: Our API integration was broken in their last service update. We’re trying to get the issue resolved now and will get them back into the list of available services ASAP!

Here we are welcoming a new Java Twitter client, its called J1CK.Tweet developed by a small group of developers from the Basque region of Spain. J1CK.Tweet is quite a little app which is bound to surprise many of you out there. Among some the immediate things I noticed its how incredibly fast it is, I was pretty impressed with its UI and how simple its overall functions are easily and intuitively displayed.

J1CK.Tweet comes in at a price of $0.00 dollars, yes its free and will compete with other free Twitter clients like Twibble and Twim and quite a few others but those two immediately jumped out as obvious comparisons. You may remember sometime ago I published 15 Twitter clients for your Nokia smartphone and in my mind J1CK.Tweet certainly needs to be added to that list. So check out the download link at the bottom of the post and give it a try I think you’ll be happily surprised.

Summary of j1ck.tweet features

All standard functionality: timeline, @mentions, DMs, favorites, following/followers, follow/unfollow, profiles… and of course tweeting!

Simple, no-nonsense interface. Up/Down/Click and using a menu is all you need to know.

Quick Reply / Retweet / Favorite in each tweet

Trending Topics / Saved searches support

Multiple-account support.

Twitpic support: you’ll see the picture without having to navigate over there

Camera support! Take a snapshot from the tweeting form itself and have it automatically uploaded to Twitpic. Great to share where you are in a moment.

Pretty good support for touch-screen phones (we’re testing mainly on Nokia 5800 and Samsung F480)

Support for QWERTY keyboard phones (Nokia E71 is currently our main testing device for this)

On the Nokia E71 which by the way is very easy to use, very impressed, for a Java app, its a lot fun to use.

The simplest way to install is to open your Java-enabled phone’s web (or WAP) browser and type the following URL to Download:

tw.j1ck.com
